Trust me, I know; the last thing this ever-lovin’ world needs is another page on the Internet of sample wedding vows.

But that’s also precisely why I’m giving you another page on the Internet full of sample wedding vows. When you Google “sample wedding vows,” you’re gonna get 4959297423 websites of varying quality filled with wedding vows. And you’ll ask yourself, “Do these work? Are they good? Do they sound weird? Will my couple like them?”

So, here’s a list of vows that I use. I either put one of them right into my couples’ wedding script based on what they’ve told me (“We’d like Shakespearean English, please.” or “None of that God stuff, please.” etc.), or I send the couple the whole list of vows and ask them to choose.

These wedding vows have never failed me yet. I’ve never had a couple say, “I hate ’em all. What else ya got?”

They seem to work. So knock yourself out and copy/paste away.

(Note: All of these vows are written for the couple to read them or to repeat after you line-by-line. If the couple want to just say, “I do,” just adapt the language to the form of a question that you will ask them. For more on the three styles of how to say vows, check out this post.)

TRADITIONAL

I, __________
do take you, __________ ;
to be my wedded wife/husband,
in the holy estate of marriage,
To have and to hold
from this day forward,
for better for worse,
for richer for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
I will love you and cherish you,
all the days of my life,
in the presence of God and these loved ones,
I give you this promise.

WITH ALL THAT I AM

With all that am,
I, __________,
take you, __________,
to be my wife/husband.
I promise to be
your lover, companion, and friend, your ally in conflict,
your partner in peace,
and your biggest supporter.
I will be your companion in adventure,
your comfort in disappointment,
your accomplice in mischief,
your strength in times of need.
I will listen with understanding,
and trust you completely,
all the days of my life.
This is my vow.

CONTEMPORARY

I, __________, take you, __________,
to be my wife/husband,
my partner and friend.
To join my life with yours,
to share with you all that is to be, to laugh with you in joy,
to comfort you in sorrow,
to grow with you in love.
I will honour you
and be faithful to you,
all the days of my life.
This is my vow.

I CHOOSE YOU

Today, I choose you
to be my husband/wife.
I vow to love you,
encourage you,
trust you, and respect you.
I accept you as you are,
and I offer myself in return.
I will care for you,
and stand beside you.
I will share with you all of life’s adversities,
and all of its joys,
from this day forward,
and all the days of my life.

CHRISTIAN TRADITIONAL

I, __________, take you, __________,
to be my husband/wife
in righteousness and justice,
steadfast love and compassion.
Before God and everyone present here,
I commit myself
to be faithful to you
actively and creatively.
I promise to love you and serve you,
respect you and encourage you,
and give myself up for you,
in all circumstances,
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
as long as our lives shall last.
I marry you in the name
of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

JEWISH HERITAGE

Today I ask
that you be a companion
and a spouse to me
with your consent and with your full knowledge.
May this marriage be a covenant
of partnership and trust
as we work to build a life together:
sometimes in unison, sometimes in harmony.
Today I bind myself to you
with respect, with love,
with friendship and with joy,
so that we may be companions and lovers
until the end of our days.

SPIRITUAL

I, __________, take you, __________,
to be my spouse.
I promise to choose you every day,
to love you in word and deed,
to do the hard work
of making now into always.
To laugh with you and cry with you,
to grow with you, and create with you.
To honour the divinity in you,
of you, and around you.
To be your kin and your partner
in all of life’s adventures.
Loving what I know of you
and trusting what I don’t yet know,
I give you my hand.
I give you my love.
I give you myself.

BY YOUR SIDE

__________, you are my best friend.
I promise to laugh with you,
cry with you,
and be present to you.
I will love you faithfully
when we are together
and when we are apart.
I will love you faithfully
through the easy and through the difficult.
I vow to grow together,
and to grow old together.
I promise to support your dreams,
to respect our differences,
and to be by your side
through all the days and nights of our lives.

SHORT AND SWEET

You are my lover and my teacher,
you are my model and my partner,
and you are my true counterpart.
I will love you,
hold you and honour you.
I will respect you,
encourage you and cherish you,
in health and sickness,
through sorrow and success,
for all the days of my life.
